Beacon's Beach Bluff Failure
|
Beacon's
has beautiful bluffs. The only problem is
that they are made of sand.
That's me, Kenzie, scoring a screamer to the
sand; "I shred dude..."
In the background is the bluff, about 1995,
below the 800 block of Neptune Avenue. That whole
area underneath the white house gave way.

This is the same area after the slide:

My dad says,
"Sort of the same way a ripped abdomen in your
20's gives
way, over the years, to too many six packs of
beers... it drops." He also tells me not
to stand near this because it is an active
landslide.
Read about an unfortunate
death due to bluff failure near Stone
Steps.
"Rebecca
Kowalczyk, 30, was killed in a landslide Jan. 15
in Leucadia while sitting on the beach watching
her husband surf. Her death prompted the City
Council to ask city staff to investigate ways,
such as limiting irrigation, to prevent similar
tragedies." So sad... :(((
