Coastal Commission Clean Up

Bob Rogers reports that The California Coastal Commission had its annual beach clean up with 68 volunteers. Among the items found included 2 crack pipes, 1 very long bong, 1 - Led Zeppelin 33rpm lp (actually 1/2 of one). Groovy. Guess how many total pounds of trash were picked up from our
beach.
Here are the items from the September 21st Beacons Beach Clean-up:
Items collected:
-
2122 cigarettes/filters
-
13 cigar tips
-
49 bags
-
41 balloons
-
259 plastic bottles
-
92 glass bottles
-
104 beverage cans
-
270 lids (for containers)
-
9 light sticks
-
13 condoms
-
115 plastic plates, forks, knives or spoons
-
215 food wrappers
-
5 shotgun shells/wadding
-
150 straws
-
2 batteries
-
10 bars of surf wax
-
1 surfboard leash
We will be doing it again next year. The state sponsor was the Coastal Commission. SD County sponsors Baykeepers and "I Love a Clean SD."

It was one of those feel good experiences that we all need. If you live or play in Leucadia, the Pacific Ocean is our grounding rod. We take, and take. The time comes when it is our turn to give.
We also share an obligation to preserve and expose the next generations to the stewardship of our natural resources.
See you in the water.
The North County Times also reported on the clean up efforts -
