How is swell direction determined?: Swell is based on standard compass headings: 360 or 0 degrees = north, 270 degrees = west, 180 degrees = south and 90 degrees = east (if we get an east swell, we are in trouble).
You use any map as the top of the map is always north. The bottom is always south. You can then estimate the swell direction using those coordinates.
How do you determine which swell direction works for Beacons Beach?: Most local surfers with years of experience can tell you - but you will have to ask them.
