Cardiff Steve

Beacon's local: Steve Petitt
But they call me: Cardiff Steve
I am a: local dude
I've been a local for: 21+ years
My favorite break: All of the breaks were fun to surf under the right conditions.
Over the years I have seen many a Classic Surf Day at Beacons.
I used to live on Diana Street and it was a walk of just a few minutes to Beacons.
I had many friends who lived on Neptune. Most have moved on now.
I now live in Cardiff and always stop at Beacons to feel the "vibes".
I used to surf a 7'6" Lightning Bolt and a few Nectar Surfboards.
I currently have a heart condition that keeps me in drydock.
But I like watching the younger crew tear it up when it's pumping.
Beacons Beach will always have a special place in my soul!
SURF ON DUDES!
Steve Petitt
aka Cardiff Steve
I work/school at: Retired
My favorite Beacon's story or memory or observation:
Too many to list here right now!
Wow! I think back on it now and I could write a book on all the great times I had in the Beacons area.
Surf, people, parties, in my day this was the place to be!
My favorite board or activity at Beacon's:
Additional info:
What is your favorite part of Encinitas?
I love it all! All the space between Carlsbad & Solana Beach is home to me!
Swami's has many memories for me too. Surfed there in 1969!
Lots of great surf days without real bad crowds.
In the old days you could actually camp there overnight!
Yeah from Ponto to Seaside, that was my local surf patrol route.

What do you enjoy most about Beacons?
I enjoy the view nowadays. With my heart condition, it would be hard for me to even walk the stairs.
I had my days of fun in the sun, time for me to move on over for the young folks now.

Favorite restaurant:
Captain Keno's, Juanita's and of course the all the little Mexican food restaurants near Beacons.
Ummmm. Chorizo Torta, my favorite!

What makes a local?
Being a local means to me, someone who has been around an area for a while.
Has had a bunch of experiences under various conditions.
And getting involved in matters to keep your area nice.
We used to be active members of The Clean Ocean movement. Surfrider is happening now.
And always leave the beach cleaner than when you found it.
